A scroll-driven ascent from a valley floor to a 4,206 m summit

Altitude is a single-page editorial experience built around one continuous climb. It begins at 1,246 m on the floor of a valley and ends at 4,206 m on the summit of Mont Isolé, with scrolling as the only control. Six named stations introduce changing elevations, each paired with a short passage and a wide landscape photograph or video. A thin altitude rail on the right edge follows the scroll and shows the current height. The lower part of the page contains Hill 19, a compact three-station demo that reuses the same mechanic in a smaller section with a local rail, illustrating how the component can be dropped into an existing page.

How to Use

  1. Start at the base

Open the page and read the opening block: the peak name, base elevation, summit elevation, and the note that the whole page is one gain in elevation. The fixed rail on the right already shows your starting altitude of 1,246 m.

  2. Scroll through the stations

Scroll down to move up the mountain. Each section introduces a named station with its elevation, a short description, and a photograph or video that spans the viewport. The dot on the right rail rises as you scroll and the number beside it updates to mark the altitude you have reached.

  3. Reach the summit or jump ahead

Continue to the summit section for the closing text, or use the Skip to summit link at the top to jump straight there. The Request an ascent link moves down to the compact demo, and Return to base brings you back to the opening block without reloading the page.

  4. Try the compact demo

The lower Hill 19 block repeats the same mechanic in a shorter form with three stations from 84 m to 486 m. It is meant to show how the altitude component can be placed inside an existing page, and its rail stays local to the section instead of being fixed to the viewport.
